Operation Blessing International is making a significant impact across the globe through humanitarian efforts and clean water initiatives. This videos highlights Operation Blessing’s disaster relief initiatives for clean water in Haiti during Hurricane Isaac in August 2012. MIOX and Operation Blessing continue to work closely on developing economical and effective solutions for providing safe, clean drinking water to those in need.
MIOX Corporation has responded to Worldwide disaster needs since its start-up in 1994. The MIOX electrolytic cell technology was developed by Los Alamos Technical Associates (LATA) in the 1980s to respond to the U.S. Army’s need for portable disinfectant generators. LATA developed a process that would produce a disinfectant many times as effective as chlorine, yet without using or producing hazardous chemicals. The Mixed Oxidant Solution (MOS) technology has been recognized by the EPA as being cost effective and simple enough for small rural community water systems to operate. Using only salt, the generators eliminate the need to transport and use hazardous chemicals, such as chlorine and other biocides. MOS creates drinking water that is taste and odor free, produces less disinfection byproducts than chlorine, and leaves a disinfectant residual in the distribution system which methods such as ozone, chlorine dioxide, and ultraviolet do not.
MOS has been proven in numerous laboratory studies to achieve more rapid and thorough inactivation of a wider range of microbial contaminants. MOS usually is several orders of magnitude more effective in microbial contaminant inactivation than conventional chlorine and chlorine gas, achieving up to 2 logs higher inactivation of even extremely resistant organisms. MIOX’s MOS disinfection chemistry reduces Cryptosporidium contamination by 99.99%; chlorine is ineffective. In field studies done in New Mexico and California, and research done by the Universities of Arizona and New Mexico, similar effectiveness results have been found with other difficult microorganisms. MIOX was demonstrated to get a 99.99% reduction of Giardia after 30 minutes, and eliminated E. coli and cholera after 60 minutes.
MIOX has been making safe drinking water for twenty years. The company’s extensive experience in water disinfection ranges from rural communicates and large cities to disaster relief efforts. Many cities are turning to MIOX chemistries for their permanent drinking water treatment because the chemistry is a proven disinfectant for cost-effectively reducing disinfection byproducts and improving the quality and safety of drinking water.
