Mixed Oxidant Solution and Sodium Hypochlorite Generators for Water Disinfection

For 20 years, MIOX has designed and manufactured reliable and cost-effective on-site chemical generators for water disinfection.  MIOX offers two different types of on-site chemical generators.  Our sodium hypochlorite generators (HYPO) are engineered to provide the absolute lowest cost bleach available on the market.  In contrast, our Mixed Oxidant Solution (MOS) systems are engineered for maximum disinfection efficacy through proprietary cell design, control of power and cell geometry.

MIOX technology has been engineered for a variety of water treatment applications in many sectors including:

  • Drinking water including municipal water treatment, wastewater treatment, and humanitarian disaster relief
  • Cooling water treatment for biofilm removal, legionella removal and improved heat transfer efficiency
  • Industrial water treatment including process water and cooling tower water treatment
  • Oil & gas water including produced water treatment, frac water and flowback water, hydrogen sulfide removal (H₂S), disposal wells, enhanced oil recovery (EOR) with mobile water treatment solutions available

Biofilm Removal | Water Treatment Technology

MIOX Mixed Oxidant Solution (MOS) is a safe, user-friendly and viable chemical treatment method for biofilm removal, microbiological control, and water disinfection.  MOS chemistry has shown in multiple applications and third-party research to have a significant impact on industries that utilize water treatment chemicals – including municipal water treatment, cooling tower water treatment, industrial water treatment, food and beverage sanitation applications, oil and gas water, and aquatics water.

What is biofilm?

Below is a time-lapse video of biofilm removal using MIOX Mixed Oxidant Solution.  The video shows 4 weeks of biofilm growth removed for 5 hours at a 12ppm dose of MOS with before and after pictures as well.  For more videos about MIOX technology and on-site generation, visit our Videos page.

MIOX Signs Multi-Year Contract for Produced Water Recycling in Oil & Gas

MIOX’s Blackwater™ mobile water treatment trailer provides cost-effective and environmentally responsible produced water management.

The MIOX Blackwater trailer is a mobile water disinfection system designed to meet high volume oil and gas water disinfection needs with ease.  This dual-MIOX Mixed Oxidant Solution (MOS) system design allows oil and gas service providers to meet fluctuating water quality, oxidant demand and water volume all within a footprint no larger than 9’ by 40’.  Safe oxidizing chemistry generated at your site when you need it, with ZERO hazardous clean-up or spill procedures.

Using MIOX’s patented and innovative technology, oxidant is generated on site and on-demand using just common salt, water and power.  The on-site chemical generation process replaces the need to purchase, transport and store biocides, iron chelants and Hydrogen Sulfide scavengers.  Capable of treating in excess of 15,000 barrels per day at dosages exceeding 150 mg/l and higher depending on contaminants/constituents in the water, MOS can help achieve complete kill of both Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (SRB) and Acid Producing Bacteria (APB) while eliminating Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S).

For standard produced water disinfection requirements, the Blackwater mobile disinfection system houses two state-of-the-art on-site MOS generators engineered with superior salt and energy efficiencies.

Creating oxidant on site is cost effective and environmentally responsible, cutting back transportation requirements by up to 80%, reducing carbon emissions and fuel consumption, eliminating middle men and the storage and disposal of chemical containers.

Meeting Increased Demand for Chilled Water in Downtown Chicago

In collaboration with Fehr Solutions, Chicago based company Thermal Chicago recently upgraded their cooling tower treatment process to include a larger MIOX Mixed Oxidant Solution chemical generator.  Previously, Thermal Chicago had utilized a MIOX Dual SAL 80 system (20 lbs/day FAC) at one of their cooling facilities.  To meet the increased demand for chilled water, they have purchased a new state-of-the-art MOX Vault M45 system (45 lbs/day FAC).

Thermal Chicago Corporation owns and operates the world’s largest interconnected district cooling system, currently serving about 100 buildings in downtown Chicago.  As a result of proven reliability and long standing track record since 1995, customers in Chicago continue to turn to Thermal Chicago district cooling service for their chilled water needs for air-conditioning in condominiums, commercial and industrial facilities.MIOX Vault 45 lbs/day Mixed Oxidant Solution
