Sorry for a harsh attention gathering title here. The fact of the matter is that chlorine gas is used as a chemical weapon these days in Middle East primarily because it’s the most abundant method to treat water, and can very easily be stolen and “weaponized”.   Even more frightening, many water treatment plants in the United States use chlorine gas in great abundance with thousands of tons stored on location at all times.

MIOX Hypochlorite Generators replace Chlorine Gas for Wastewater Treatment

MIOX is pleased to announce that we have been selected as the preferred technology to replace chlorine gas used in the final disinfection of wastewater from the treatment plant in Tuxtla City, Mexico which is operated by TICSA.  In conjunction with Veolia Mexico, the MIOX on-site sodium hypochlorite chlorine generator system was chosen over competing technologies to improve safety at the facility.

The Tuxtla City wastewater plant is surrounded by residential neighborhoods and concerns over long-term safety drove TICSA to select a safer solution that was also economical.  The ability to use salt to generate chlorine avoids transporting hazardous chemicals through the City on the way to the plant. The system should be operating by the summer of 2015.

The project scope includes two MIOX RIO H4 on-site generators.  This equipment produces up to 800 pounds per day sodium hypochlorite and will disinfect wastewater for over 500,000 residents in Tuxtla City, Mexico.  MIOX sodium hypochlorite generators are designed to produce the absolute lowest cost chlorine available on the market.  Many facilities are turning to MIOX HYPO systems for safety, economic, and process benefits.Two (2) MIOX RIO H4 Chlorine Generators

Cooling Tower Water Treatment at Leading Consumer Goods Manufacture in France

The substitution of conventional biocide treatments with MIOX Mixed Oxidant Solution (MOS) chemical generator has resulted in a biocidal cooling tower water treatment process that costs less and is more effective than isothiazoline and bromine biocides.  The positive results were documented from an installation at a leading consumer goods manufacturer in France.

The installation of MIOX Mixed Oxidant Solution (MOS) has been shown to be as effective as utilizing isothiazoline compounds and organic biocides while significantly reducing operation costs.  Water analysis and a real-time ATP (adenosine triphosphate) test showed positive impact to the cooling water when the biocical treatment was changed to MIOX Mixed Oxidant Solution (MOS).  Also the facility observed low ATP rates with a decreasing trend since the installation of the RIO Zuni systems.

 

MIOX technology helped the facility meet its objectives of:

1)      Microbiological Control: The new treatment process utilizing MOS is as effective as the previous treatment process (isothiazoline & bromine) at controlling bacterial growth.

2)      Safety & Simplicity: On-site chemical generation eliminated the manipulation of up to 5,500 lb/year biocidal products from filling meters and/or manual injection.  Furthermore, the facility was able to completely eliminate the transportation, storage and handling of delivered chemicals and their containers.

3)      Economic Benefits: Lower operating costs from removing the purchase of delivered biocidal products and switching to on-site generation which utilizes only salt, water and electricity.
